SUMMARY:Silent Auction
DESCRIPTION:WE are excited to share a big update with our museum family.  \nWe are in the process of purchasing the property next to us\, and our offer has been accepted. This expansion will allow us to better serve our growing community. We are currently working to secure funds for the deposit. \nAs many of you have experienced\, we’ve reached capacity during events and are limited in space for collections\, programs\, and gatherings. This next step changes that. \nYou’re invited to be part of this momentum: \nSilent Auction – June 5 | 6–8 PM (at the museum)\nJoin us for a lively evening filled with unique finds\, local experiences\, and a few surprises. Enjoy live music\, snacks\, refreshments\, and time together as you explore and bid. \nHighlights include: \n\nAlaska Airlines tickets for travel anywhere in the U.S. and Canada \nAdmission packages to museums across the Puget Sound\nCurated local experiences\, gift items\, and more\nSome items will only be available the night of the event.\n\nYou’ll also experience a special pop-up exhibit on the history of Olde Burien\, connecting the story of our museum to the very land we hope to expand into. \nSpecial Guest Speaker: Lei Wang\nOne of fewer than 100 people in the world to complete the Explorers Grand Slam—climbing the highest peak on every continent and skiing to both the North and South Poles. Lei began her journey with no athletic background and went on to achieve one of the most demanding feats of endurance and leadership on Earth. Her story is about resilience\, courage\, and redefining limits.\nLearn more: leiwangspeaker.com  \nAll proceeds will be used to purchase (deposit) the adjacent property. \nPlease RSVP by sending an email to director@highlinemuseum.org.

SUMMARY:Patch Work Politics
DESCRIPTION:Patch-Work Politics\, The daring story of Mrs. Bertha Knight Landes\, who in 1926 became not only Seattle’s first woman mayor\, but the first woman mayor of any major metropolitan city in the United States! \nSince 1987 N.W. Storyteller/Actress Debbie Dimitre has been entertaining\, inspiring\, and educating audiences of all ages with her historical and dramatic storytelling presentations. In costume and by the glow of her kerosene lamp\, Debbie brings to life women and young girls in American history through story and first person portrayals in a style that is uniquely her own. Some of her portrayals include such women as Harriet Beecher-Stowe\, Nellie Bly\, Eleanor Roosevelt\, Annie Oakley\, Grandma Moses and Rachel Carson just to name a few. \nDebbie has performed for schools\, Community colleges\, Churches\, libraries\, book stores\, historical societies\, philanthropic and service organizations\, professional women’s groups\, retired teachers\, as well as numerous retirement communities. She has performed for the Seattle Folklife Festival\, served on a board of the Seattle Storytellers Guild\, been a member of and performed for the Biblical Storytellers Network and facilitated women’s retreats. \nAmerican Association of University Women (AAUW) is proudly hosting this event in partnership with the Highline Heritage Museum. AAUW empowers women and girls by championing their success in higher education and pushing for bold policy solutions to create lasting change. For more than 140 years\, AAUW has led the fight for gender equity in higher education and beyond. With a strong record of advocacy and action\, AAUW continues to break barriers and defend the rights of women in education and the workplace.
