Internship Opportunities

The Highline Heritage Museum presents a unique opportunity for interns to learn from experiencing a newly occupied collections facility and spectacular new exhibit space. The next couple years will be exciting with new programming and research opportunities abound. Internships at the HHM are challenging, educational experiences designed for undergraduate and graduate students. Working alongside staff members in a tutorial arrangement, interns gain valuable skills and training in museum practices.

Internship Types:

Under the supervision of the Director, the intern will work on a variety of tasks pertaining to collections care. Primary responsibilities will be to process our archival and photographic collection; consisting of documents, photographs, scrapbooks, and others.

 

 

The intern will work with the director including but not limited to: collections-management system, collections inventory, finding aids, rehousing projects, creating object files for accessions, cataloguing collection materials. The intern will have the opportunity to work collections-management projects as needed. Additional training related to preservation, arrangement, description, and creation of finding aids for archival collections will be included in what is covered.

Requirements: Detail oriented and well organized. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Self-motivating, problem solver, punctual, courteous, and responsible.

The intern will work closely with the director to coordinate social media initiatives including making posts on social sites, youtube video production, online exhibits (PastPerfect software). The social media intern will develop an innovative and effective social media plan across all channels of social media (including Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, and more). The intern will be responsible for driving visitor engagement through continual updates on social media sites. Other tasks may be assigned. Intern will work at least 4 hours/week, and will also be required to update and monitor social media sites from outside the collections as needed. This is a Summer internship.

Requirements: Excellent writing skills. Public relations, social media, or creative copy writing experience is a plus. Photography and photo editing skills a plus. Video and video editing skills a plus. Ability to monitor and update social media platforms from outside the office, including the flexibility to post updates on nights and weekends.
